April 29th, 2012

You may notice a change in the title to this monthly post – Mergers!  I’m now including info on what companies are forming partnerships, being acquired, etc.  I hope you find the added info useful!

Yahoo laid off more than 2,000 employees, or about 14 percent of the broader workforce, including a bunch of folks form the music side such as John Lenac (Head of Programming & Artist/Label Relations) and Gina Juliano (Director of Programming).

Live Nation-owned Front Line Management Group has hired recording industry execs Ron Fair and Richard Palmese into high-powered consulting gigs.

The SAG and AFTRA merger is finally official.

Sony/ATV Music Publishing named Rob Wiesenthal President of International.  Michael Lynton has officially been named CEO of Sony Corp. of America, with Nicole Seligman appointed President.

Facebook acquired Instagram for $1 BILLION.  Not too shabby considering Instagram is a two year old, profitless company.

The New York Times has predicted that 60% of the staff at EMI Music Publishing will be laid off upon the company’s acquisition.

An estimated 36 people have been laid off from Roadrunner Records, with offices in UK, Germany, Canada, and the Netherlands closing completely.
